Kikuyu: It is harder to spell than hit from?

Rudi Fann (Head Golf Professional, Black Lake Golf Resort) and Jay Farrior (Head Golf Professional, Avila Golf Resort) say that a wider stance, which creates a shallower swing (so you don't get stuck in the twiny grass) and more lofted clubs for carry are keys that help them get around both courses more effecient.

Billy Gibbs (Director of Instrution) Kikuyu is a grass with an attitude, it has what he calls the "Velcro" effect. Kikuyu has a way of reaching up and grabbing your club so when chipping from it, use a "brushing" type of stroke with a putter or a hybrid to keep the clubs (leading edge) above the grass. This should produce the slight trajectory and smooth roll needed for a good shot.

From the Director of Golf & Power Zone Contributor, Mike Brabenac points out that carrying the ball an extra 5 to 10 yards by taking out one extra club on all approach shots will do the trick.

From Jim DeLaby, Director of the Golf CARE Instructional Membership, two keys to help me play better on this type of playing surface is to purposely choke down a quarter inch and to keep the butt out posture during the swing. This aids in insruing that this grass does not grab the club as much thru the hitting area.
